Long ago, a boy from Volendam won a bicycle race. His prize was a leather soccer ball and a pair of soccer shoes. With boys from the village they played soccer among themselves and eventually formed an association. This happened in 1920 under the name "Victoria." On the advice of the local chaplain, that was later changed to the Roman Catholic Sports Association Volendam, or RKSV. In 1978, the association was split into paid soccer organization FC Volendam and the amateur association RKAV Volendam. Today, RKAV has about 130 teams.
Sustainability is a requirement
Willem Taalen, board member of accommodation and security, approached the Rabobank to ask if they might support RKAV's plans regarding the new outdoor terrace. "They wanted to," says Willem, "but sustainability was a requirement for the Rabobank. And so we started looking for sustainable outdoor furniture. We quickly ended up at Holland Sport Systems, and because we had worked with them before on the purchase of ball lockers, team lockers and grandstand seats, the choice was quickly made."
Solid and heavy furniture
RKAV has chosen picnic tables type Lyon and standing tables type Bistro. The hexagonal picnic table type Roma provides a cozy place to sit together as a team.
"The benches and bar tables have been in use since September 2022 and still look new after one winter. We also assume they will stay good given the ten-year warranty," said Willem. "This warranty was also one of the reasons we chose this durable outdoor furniture. The furniture is solid and heavy. You can't just slide it around and that's just the idea. Especially at Corona time. In addition, the furniture looks nice, at least it does not have a "plastic look". Putting it together was a bit of a chore, but once it's there, it's worth it. Until now we are satisfied with our choice for this outdoor furniture".
Gerrie de Boer of RKAV made the video below for Holland Sport Systems. This video shows the outdoor furniture we supplied, as well as the grandstand chairs we also supplied.
